Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

MEM18050 - Disconnect/reconnect fixed wired equipment over 1000 volts a.c./1500 volts d.c.

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Disconnect equipment

  1. Determine electrical characteristics of equipment and circuit by reference to circuit drawings, schematics, reference manuals, equipment specifications, identification plate and/or consultation with technical adviser
  2. Determine and record equipment characteristics, including direction of rotation, where appropriate
  3. Identify point/s of electrical isolation and isolate equipment in accordance with procedures
  4. Use all lock-off equipment and signage requirements appropriately
  5. Prove electrical isolation using appropriate techniques, procedures and test equipment
  6. Note, record and label conductor layout
  7. Disconnect conductors and terminate and make safe disconnected cables/connections
